Coverage area: Shelton (ZIP 98584), the Kamilche Valley, Little Creek Casino Resort, the Hammersley Inlet and Oakland Bay waterfront, and the broader Mason County US-101 corridor. Shelton is the only city we serve in Mason County, the Mason County seat, and the westernmost city on Puget Sound. Shelton to SeaTac is approximately 80 miles, 95-115 minutes via US-101 South to I-5 North.
Like Rochester, Shelton is meaningfully an inbound destination — visitors fly into SeaTac specifically for Little Creek Casino Resort and the Olympic Peninsula. These two routes drive a substantial share of our Shelton bookings.
Owned and operated by the Squaxin Island Tribe, Little Creek opened in 1995 and is now a full destination resort — nearly 200 hotel rooms, 1,000+ slots and table games, the par-72 Salish Cliffs Golf Club, the Seven Inlets Spa, the Skookum Creek Event Center for events up to 2,000 guests, an RV park, and a sports book. Located on SR-108 in the Kamilche Valley just south of Shelton.
Our SeaTac-to-Little-Creek direct transfer is one of our most-booked Shelton routes. Visitors land at SeaTac, we meet them at baggage claim with a name placard, and drive direct to the resort entrance — no rental car required after a long flight.
Shelton is officially nicknamed the "Gateway to the Olympics" — and we mean it literally. US-101 runs north out of Shelton along Hood Canal and into the heart of the Olympic Peninsula, with Hoodsport, Staircase Ranger Station, Lake Cushman, and the broader Olympic National Park accessed via this corridor.
Visitors fly into SeaTac for Olympic Peninsula trips — Shelton is the natural staging point. We handle day trips, multi-day Peninsula tours, and pickup/drop-off coordination for hikers, photographers, and out-of-state visitors. Hourly bookings, custom-quoted multi-day itineraries available.
Shelton is the only incorporated city in Mason County, the westernmost city on Puget Sound, and a town with three genuinely distinct angles that shape how we serve it.
Shelton's official nickname is the "Gateway to the Olympics." US-101 runs north out of town along the western shore of Hood Canal and into the heart of the Olympic Peninsula. For visitors flying into SeaTac to explore Olympic National Park, Lake Cushman, Hoodsport, or the broader Peninsula, Shelton is the natural staging town.
This makes Shelton functionally an inbound destination for outdoor-recreation visitors — different from the typical airport-runs-out pattern. Our chauffeurs meet at SeaTac baggage claim and drive direct to Shelton-area lodges, vacation rentals, or onward into the Peninsula.
Shelton has carried the official nickname "Christmastown USA" since 1955, when the Chamber of Commerce coined it for the city's high volume of fir and pine Christmas trees grown in the surrounding area. The name isn't marketing fluff — Shelton is genuinely one of the country's major Christmas tree producing regions.
In 2019, Shelton broke the Guinness World Record for the most lit Christmas trees. The annual Holiday Lights Festival and downtown Christmas celebrations drive a noticeable November-December booking pattern: visitors flying in for the festival, family reunions hosted at Shelton-area homes, and group transportation between Olympia hotels and Shelton holiday events.
Shelton is a real working city. Simpson Timber, founded in 1900, was once the second-largest timber holder in Washington State; its successor Green Diamond Resource Company still operates from downtown Shelton offices. The Squaxin Island Tribe — known as the "People of the Waters" — is the largest employer in Mason County, running Little Creek and multiple subsidiaries.
The Washington Corrections Center, the Washington State Patrol Academy, and Mason General Hospital (the only hospital in Mason County) round out a real institutional base. Oyster farms — Taylor Shellfish, Seattle Shellfish — operate on Hammersley Inlet and Oakland Bay. Corporate accounts here serve a real economy, not just visitors.

Actual drive details — distance, time, the US-101 connector to I-5, and what we account for in scheduling.
The Shelton to SeaTac drive runs US-101 South from Shelton through the Kamilche Valley to Olympia, then I-5 North through Lacey, JBLM, Lakewood, and Tacoma to SeaTac. Total distance is approximately 80 miles.
Typical drive time is 95-115 minutes in normal traffic. The US-101 segment (Shelton to the I-5 interchange near Olympia) takes about 25 minutes; the I-5 North segment to SeaTac is then 70-85 minutes depending on JBLM and Tacoma traffic. Add 15-30 minutes during weekday rush hours (7-9 AM southbound out of Seattle).
For early-morning departures, we plan 105 minutes plus 30-minute security buffer, putting Shelton pickup around 3:15 AM for a 6:00 AM flight. We monitor I-5 conditions overnight and adjust for construction or weather.
The Shelton to Olympic National Park drive runs the opposite direction — US-101 north from Shelton along Hood Canal. Hoodsport and Lake Cushman are 25-30 miles north, the Staircase entrance to Olympic National Park is roughly 40 miles, and deeper Peninsula destinations (Quilcene, Hurricane Ridge) require additional time across the Hood Canal Bridge.
Door-to-door pickup throughout Shelton and the broader Mason County US-101 corridor at the same flat rate.
The downtown business district along Railroad Avenue and Cota Street — Mason County Courthouse, Green Diamond Resource Company offices, historic buildings from the Simpson Timber era. Common pickup zone for state institution and government-related travel.
The Shelton waterfront along Hammersley Inlet and Oakland Bay — residential waterfront properties, oyster farm operations (Taylor Shellfish, Seattle Shellfish), and the Shelton harbor area. Wedding-day shuttles and waterfront-venue pickups originate here.
The Little Creek Casino Resort property in the Kamilche Valley just south of Shelton — hotel, casino floor, Salish Cliffs Golf Club, Seven Inlets Spa, Skookum Creek Event Center, and RV park. Direct SeaTac transfers in both directions at the standard Little Creek rate.
Residential neighborhoods radiating from downtown Shelton — the west side, the area around Shelton High School, Olympic Highway corridor residences, and the broader unincorporated areas immediately surrounding the city. Standard residential pickup zone.
The Squaxin Island Reservation and tribal community in the area west and south of Shelton. We provide transportation for tribal members, visitors to Little Creek, and attendees of the annual Sa Heh Wa Mish Days Pow Wow. Same Shelton-tier flat-rate pricing.
The Washington Corrections Center and Washington State Patrol Academy sit in the broader Shelton area — institutional pickups for visiting family members, contractors, and employees. Mason General Hospital is downtown.
Rural and waterfront addresses on US-101 north of Shelton toward Hoodsport, Potlatch, and Lake Cushman. The eastern shore of Hood Canal is part of our extended coverage. Beyond Hoodsport, custom-quoted based on distance.
The corridor between Shelton and Olympia along US-101 — Summit Lake, Kamilche, and rural Mason County addresses south of the city. Standard Shelton-tier pricing applies. For Olympia addresses, see our Olympia page.
Other Mason County communities served by Mason Transit — Belfair, Allyn, Grapeview, and the broader county. These addresses are quoted based on distance from Shelton; some may require custom pricing beyond the standard Shelton tier.
